SportKompas for Kids (SPOKI) - ERASMUS+ project

SportaMundi coordinates an ERASMUS+ project to implement SportKompas in 3 cities in Europe: Tampere (Finland), Cuneo (Italy) and Valencia (Spain) together with 5 partners: Varala Institute (Finland), ANCI Piemonte (Italy), European University of Valencia (Spain), Cluster Sports & Technology (the Netherlands) and EPSI (Belgium).

What does the European project entail?

The goal of this project is to implement the proven sports orientation method ā€œSportKompasā€ in primary schools in European cities.

When children begin a sport that matches their interests and skills, they feel success, have fun and are motivated to continue. This contributes to their self-esteem, integration and a healthy lifestyle. By focusing on schools, we include every child with respect for diversity, culture and socioeconomic context.

Physical educators and coaches can use SportKompas test results to improve the development of children's movement skills.

Local governments can gain insights into childrenā€™s sport preferences, health parameters for exercise and potential barriers to participating in sports.

Universities get a large quantity of anonymous data for research.

With this ERASMUS+ collaboration we want to leverage SportKompas' know-how, adapt it to local needs and make it available to every school and city in Europe. The geographical spread, cultural differences and cross-country knowledge transfer during the project will lead to a sustainable digital solution for dissemination in other EU countries.

How will the trajectory go?

The project will start with a kick off on the 31st of January - 2nd of February 2024 in Ghent. During these 3 days SportaMundi will train all partners on SportKompas and explain how they can implement it in their local region and city.

During the first months of the project the 3 implementation partners (Varala, ANCI Piemonte and European University of Valencia) will ā€œtranslateā€ the Flemish website ā€œSports planetsā€ to their local language. Based on the local context in the cities Tampere, Cuneo and Valencia the website will be adapted with the local sports and sports clubs that kids can find in their neighborhood.

The 3 implementation partners will plan and prepare SportKompas sessions with local primary schools to involve 200 children in 2025.

During the project Cluster Sports and Technology will investigate how some of the SportKompas physical tests can be digitalized to enhance the scalability and accurateness of the tests.

General objectives

This project will result in an improved and sustainable capacity to collaborate on an international scale, with local implementation and centralized support. With this project we want to make a societal impact on sports participation, health prevention, wellbeing, and integration, on a multi-national level. More specifically we want to:

  • Activate more children to sports based on their motivation and skills
  • Reduce the dropout in sports clubs
  • Improve children's movement skills
  • Facilitate social integration

The project runs forĀ 2 years (2024 - 2025). In the meantime you can follow all updates via this page.
